While we were in NY, we took the girls up to see Niagara Falls. They enjoyed that and we also sprung for the cave of the winds tour that goes below the falls. That was pretty amazing since I have never done that before. The falls literally splash onto the deck that you are standing on and you can reach your hand into them!

Melissa-I received your comment and wanted to let you know a little bit about what I have learned. This will actually be my first year. I have a 4 year old and we decided to use Sonlight with her. I have not started it yet but what I have seen, I love! I am a very organized person and didn't really want to spend a lot of time planning what we were going to learn that week. With Sonlight it is all laid out for you. They don't use textbooks in the smaller grades. They use everyday books that you read to your children. For example, Berenstein Bears Science and nature book, Peter Rabbit, Dr. Seuss and so on. For Math, I am leaning towards Horizons. I checking into Saxon and Bob Jones but didn't feel like my daughter would get everything she needed from them. I really hope this helps you somewhat. Also, you mentioned being gone for a month for your adoption. With homeschooling, you can just add that month somewhere else. Don't feel pressured to get it all done in a 36 week time. I didn't know if you had done this before or not. I am very excited to get started and please feel free to ask me anymore questions. If you would like to email me privately and talk my email is amberwaggoner @ hotmail.com minus the spaces. Good Luck!
