Cookies, and Bread, and Baking, Oh My!

We tried out making candy cane cookies this year. I let all the kids take turns rolling ropes of red and white dough for the canes.
They look better than they taste. But it was fun to make them!
I spent Saturday icing cookies and baking. Our class Christmas party was that evening and I felt responsible to offset our large family by taking plenty of food! I made my Grandmother's molasses bread recipe into rolls and they were very popular. I love that bread because it is so soft and slightly sweet. Mmmm...I whipped up some frosting for the kids and gave them each some cookies to decorate. Misha and Annette both enjoy piling the frosting high (my kind of kids!) and loading on the sprinkles!
I iced the gingerbread people myself since I know no one else can manage the piping bag and it is my favorite Christmas chore--even though it's messy. Ahhh...
All ready.

Now for this:

Oh I LOVE the gingerbread men! Oh, and that mess is the one thing I don't like about cooking. Good think I married a man who doesn't mind washing dishes too terribly!

Looks like fun! I haven't started baking yet...I'm trying to put it off until tomorrow. We're going to have a house full this year. Since we're in Wyoming and close to both sets of parents, we're having them as well as my brother, his wife and five kids. I don't have enough table space, but we're going to have fun anyway! :)

Growing up we always made candy cane cookies...I love the taste of them and how fragile they are...but now I make them without the foodcoloring....not for healthy reasons...they are just so hard to twist together and they just fall apart...now I just do all white dough and then sprinkle crushed candycane candy mixed with sugar on top of them immediately after they come out of the oven.
YUMM!

Okay...the cookie with no arms and a surprised look is just typical!
Only you......
Good work on them, really!
:)
Love the process....hate the clean-up.

Merry Christmas to you and Steve...and your entire clan of littles.

Every time I stop by you make me hungry!!! I'd be willing to wash those dishes to get in on some of those cookies. How I wished we lived closer!!!

oh, and your candy cane cookies may look better than they taste, but mine came out looking like mittens instead of candy canes...they tasted good but looked ridiculous.

I almost made candy cane cookies this year. Seeing your pictures makes me wish I had done so. There's always next year...

Everything looks great!

I just got done making a bunch of cookies and am exhausted. There's nothing like waiting til the last minute. I was supposed to do this several days ago, but it just didn't happen. I have one more batch to make tomorrow and then I'm done!

By the way, I loved the gingerbread man with his arms missing. Something tells me you had something to do with that:)
